I have a little obsession with aprons. Old ones, new ones, striped ones, but they have to be cute ones. I made my first apron back in Home Ec in the 7th grade. I still remember how frustrating it was to work on that sewing machine. We didn't know anything about sewing but my teacher expected the class to just sew an apron..just like that. haha, we made it through, though cause' I have the apron to show for it.
My girls were each given an apron for a Christmas present, I was given one for helping with my niece's wedding (which was like the best present ever. In case you need any ideas..and it had my name embroidered on it..luv at first sight)... it has just progressed from there. I've received them for Mother's Day or on my birthday.
I'm not really sure where my luv for them came to be but I do have a memory of my step-mom wearing one every time she was ever in the kitchen. Hers said" kiss the cook" and it was red.. she always looked so cute in it with her red hair. Although, I think she was going for the "I don't want to get stains on my clothes_look".
Anywhoo while cooking/cleaning the other day.. I had to check my attitude. I can sometimes get into the mindset of this is all I do.. fix breakfast, clean the dishes, fix lunch, clean the table, cook dinner, clean up & put up leftovers, etc, etc.. But I was reminded the other day that Jesus was a servant_He came here_to earth and He served people_sick people, poor people, his family, even those that all they wanted was a touch from Him.. and that's what I'm supposed to do. I'm supposed to serve my family with a happy heart not one that's kinda mumbling on the inside. They may need food fixed or maybe they just need to feel my touch.
So now putting on that apron takes on a whole new meaning...as I slip it over my head and tie the laces around my back...I remember I'm here to be a servant_ to first serve_and then to be served.
