Just Move

I laced up my shoes_ grabbed my iPhone_

put the ear buds in my ears_ and walked out the door.
There was a breeze blowing_ the sun was shining through the trees_ life was good_ it felt good to be back at it. Exercising….movement…moving.
Stiff at the first of it and then a little more easy, and then a jog here and there,
and then less stiffness.
My legs were sore in places that normally weren’t sore from the previous days walk up the hills. But it felt good to know my muscles were doing what they were meant to do _ move….being used.
It hit me while on this walk so it is the same with my spiritual walk.
It can get stagnant _ when I’m not talking with the Lord regularly, when I’m not applying His word_ I even notice it with the things that I’ve been putting into myself.
Have I only listened to music that doesn’t breathe life?
Have I only watched movies of a depressing nature?
There can be no growth here, just a place of standing still
{kinda like when I stop exercising and I cease to feel good inside & out}.
But what I’ve found is I have to keep moving.
Because just as atrophy can set in if my muscles aren’t used over time so a complacent attitude or an attitude of passivity can set in spiritually.
And I want so much more than that.
I want so much more out of life than to just get by with stiff muscles.
So whether it’s a small walk out the door because that’s all you can do or a recommitment of getting back to the basics in your home.
Just move_ take a step_ don’t stay still for too long_
we’ve gotta keep on moving.

  1. What a great reminder! I have had those exact moments! We just need to remember to wake up, get back to talking with God, and fill our lives with faith. :)

  5. Thank you for this Heather because you could not be any more spot on. Like Ashley, I give myself excuses and "holidays" not only from exercising but from my walk with God. Oh well I am too busy today or XYZ is on TV. I get in prayer slumps. Where I feel like I am asking and talking to God yet feeling nothing in return. And I get down. It's hard but God wants us to KEEP MOVING like you said. Keep praying. Keep talking. Keep asking. Keep sharing.

  6. So true! I wish I could say my spiritual life is always "alive" and growing, but truthfully, as you said, I go through spurts of growth and then spurts of a whole lotta nothin. And I really notice a difference in my heart during those times not spent with God.

As for exercise...I'm really bad at that!

  9. Thanks for sharing with all of us! I am new to Call Me Blessed- We Encourage Tuesdays. I absolutely love it, and you are so right...we need to keep moving!

At times, taking a physical break from moving IS needed...I am a busy body. I use the "busy body" to make up for an "unbusy mind" or "unbusy spiritual" walk. You helped bring me some clarity here!

  11. I completely connected with your post and God knew I needed to hear that. I love exercising, yet there are so many times that what I do gets "old". When I mix things up in my movements I instantly feel it. My walk with God always grows more when I take it out of a stagnant place and "move" with God. Love this!

  12. Yes! The Lord has really put afire in me for the Word and it feels great! Like new life. Wish I could say the same for physical exercising. hahaha

  15. Hey girl! Found you via Everything Espey and now following! Just wanted to say hi and tell you I appreciated this post a lot. I absolutely love the walk vs spiritual walk/life analogy. It fits perfectly here. And we all need reminding of this often b/c it's so easy to slip and get off track! Lovely words!
