House Tour

Since the probability of us moving is high I've been taking some pictures of our house...just to have and remember it by. But.. since I was taking these I thought it might be fun to post a few to show some of the decor in our home. I'm a big lover of mixing the really old with new pieces. And I change things out quite a bit.. hence a big reason why I try and find a good deal. :)

Here is a piece I got in Pa from a Salvation Army. I paid $40 for it and later found a newspaper taped to the bottom drawer that dated back to the 1920's... can you say awesome!! As I've told you previously, we've moved a lot and with each move I always tell whomever may be loading our stuff... just don't break this piece.. I can re-place most of our things but not this one. It definitely has it's share of dings.. but it speaks to me. Oh, I also spotted some really cute knobs at Hobby Lobby that I want to change out the old ones with but I'm having to wait til' they go on sale..patience, patience.

The mirror was a horrible dark brown and I found it at Habit for Humanity. It was $30_but I heart it so much. I came home and spray painted it a gloss white.
The lamps came from TJ Maxx and I paid full price for them..$35 a piece. The shades had me.. most of the white gravy pieces came from Ross for like $3.99 a piece. And the cute newspaper birdies, pears, & apples came from Michael's from their $1 bin.

This dresser I picked up at a yard sale for $3. Well I actually paid the lady $6 and I got a chair(which I will show you later) and this dresser. I kept thinking I wasn't hearing her right but after the 2nd time I knew I had heard her so I quickly paid and loaded them up. It was a dark green and I left it that way for years but recently hubs helped to paint it this blue. Then we just painted the handles a black and Voila.. I use it to store movies, the kids video games, etc..

The white vase came from Ross for $6.99 and the hanging lantern dealy I purchased from Kirklands. Picture frame on left I purchased 2 of from Pier One on sale for $7.99 and was originally purple..but I spray painted 1 the same gloss white color as mirror and 1 a yellow.

I love thriftin' or garage salin' and happening upon that piece that is "special". The one to someone else that has been discarded but to you is just the perfect piece for right now. How about you.. found any good deals lately?

Goodwill hunting

Ok. so I made my every_2 week_trip to Goodwill and here are my finds.

The mirror was an immediate no brainer_ I knew that I wanted it. Hubs hasn't hung it yet because it weighs like 20 pounds or something..no lie. It's massively heavy.

This next piece(the hutch) was one I left_ drove around_ called hubs to try and talk me out of it _only he said "go get it" _so I did. That was my cue because if he's like "no, you don't need that, or are you sure?" then I usually question myself and know I probably should just pass.

It was $50 and I can't easily justify spending that flippantly..but I know this is one of those pieces for me that I will treasure. The back piece covered with the old wallpaper had me_that and the etched design on the glass...it's got character_ it's like it tells a story when you see it.

Versus this is what it looked like with the old hutch sitting on it... nothings wrong with it. But it's just plain ole' bought out of the storeroom and it's quite a bit smaller. oh, and this is the only picture I could find of the "before" hutch so bare with me and don't panic it's not Christmas yet. We still have 5 months to go... I was so excited to see if it would fit that we took the top off before I could snap a picture.

Hubs is going to help me paint both pieces to match_ But I need your suggestions & any input on what you think I should do..  if you've seen a really cute one send me a link or maybe you've re-done a piece yourself. I would so love & appreciate you for it.

Inspirational Thursday (warning this post contains a cuss word)

I stumbled upon this store while having my hair did a few weeks back but didn't have an opportunity to go inside. So me and the hubs checked it out yesterday and Oh. My. Goodness. it is a funky, vintage lovin', filled to the top, store of inspiration, kinda place. Like you literally have to step over things just to get through ...I felt like I couldn't take it all in. There's stuff hanging from the ceiling, stacked on top of each other, & places you can't even get to.

This is the "Oh. My. Goodness. face" upon walking in. :)

Shinola is the name of this little gem so I had to see what that meant. K, you ready...the dictionary refers to it as "no shinola!"  meaning You are kidding! or no S_ _ t!  "So taxes are too high? No Shinola!" haha  Or you could say "this place is so inspiring & filled with great finds"..to which someone could reply "No Shinola!"

Anyways, I did a lot of oohing & ahhing while looking in Shinola and can't wait to go back!

Thrifty Tuesday

 First, I have to start by saying these pics were taken with my phone so they're not the best quality. Second, don't judge my couch. It is worn-in. Just look at it on the right side, poor thing. It's been around since my son was born which means we've had it like 11 years. Which also means it's gone through a lot of spit up from 3 kids, drool, and I probably would have to say, even being peed on. Eventually we will get a new one but for now I'm having to be content. :)

Anyhow Jode and I were out & about looking at houses when we passed this thrift store where I spotted 4 cane back dining chairs with velvet cushions. Now anything with velvet_couches, curtains, I'm a sucker for. So he pulled me in to check'em out. But after getting close and inspecting them I felt they were cheaply made...not very sturdy. 

Once inside though I immediately spotted these 2 items. The light had shone, my eyes had seen, and the "it" had been revealed. This frame & mirror were "it."

This beauty will definitely be getting some paint. I'm thinking I want her for one of the girls rooms but we'll see. Either way I know she'll be smashing.

Can you believe that sticker? I couldn't...and the detail on the frame. 

Now my goal since getting this canvas of the fam has been to put a frame around it. Only I thought I would probably have to buy one and then paint it. Originally seeing this frame I thought "yea, I'll paint it" but after getting her home, taking out the painting, and cleaning her up a bit I decided to hang her just to see. See if it all worked together and guess what? I think it did....I think I like it just the way it is. The frame is massive and it helps take up a big space and I have some other ideas of things I want to see happen with this wall too. But for now, I'm thinking this will do.

 The best part was that there was a sign hanging that said "50% off all frames today." So I walked away paying a whopping $15 for both items.

Thrifty Thursday

I heart garage sales, like really. However, I'm not one to go dig for hours and waste a lot of time at just 1. Usually, I have limited time and I have to get what I can while the getting is good. You know there could possibly be another sale happening down the road and my find is being found by someone else. So there's not much room for dilly dally if you go along with me. Come on, you know it takes skillz to go in laser focused and come out with plunder that you paid next to nothing for. After all, that is the ultimate reward.

Neighborhood sales are the best and my husband, being awesome like he is, suggested having a family outing last week. We walk up to these babes immediately and the thoughts start running wild in my head. I've just seen these chairs in our local grocery selling for $20 a piece. Only I don't see a price so I'm not sure if they are for sell. I finally spot someone to ask and she says $3__$3 a piece. Wha?? I'll take them! My son starts to carry the plunder to our car when I hand over a $5 dollar bill and tell the nice lady to keep the change because they're worth it. She pauses......a long while it seems. It hits my head that I owe her $6 because I've got 2 chairs in tow, duh. What just happened here??

I apologize profusely explaining that I really wasn't trying to get them for cheaper-- you know that's how it 's usually done at garage sales. See if you can get something for less than the actual price. That was not the case here, promise...although I wish it kind of were. Maybe I would have a better excuse then.

The older lady gets a good laugh at me and says she's just glad to see someone so young do what she does all the time---memory loss. This kind of thing seems to be happening more frequently and I'm not too down with it.

This beauty made the whole trip worth it! My daughters have been drooling over these for awhile and I've wanted it for them too, just not at retail price. The man had a $40 tag on her and I asked if he would take any less....$30... yes sir, sold.

She has been so much fun already(sorry for her nakedness).

Our neighbor friend texted my husband later that evening wanting to know if we had any luck while G.Saling. My husband told him we had found a mannequin, for loss of a little bit better description. Neighbor friend said he was scared to ask but did she have boobs? Ummm, I said quick send a pic over please, to divert anymore confusion. Geez, I can just hear the next HOA meeting now....

Pottery Barn has these for $129 and their wooden parts are white. I'm thinking I may have to break out the spray paint on her.

Also, the necklace I found at Penney's for like $7. It needed a little something so I added a satin flower with some tulle to it. I love it!
